Ingham has been recognised for its unwavering commitment, innovation, and community spirit, earning the prestigious Rhoda Cameron Award. The service’s nomination highlighted their remarkable achievements across resilience, innovation, and long-term sustainability.
Resilience & Determination in the Face of Adversity
Ingham has consistently demonstrated extraordinary determination and adaptability during challenging times. Over the years, the service has navigated volunteer shortages, rising operational costs, and the significant impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. More recently, the February 2025 North Queensland Floods presented another formidable challenge.
Despite these adversities, the team ensured that vulnerable clients continued to receive nutritious meals and essential social connections. The committee and volunteers consistently prioritise client needs, showing initiative and strength in overcoming obstacles, often under difficult and rapidly changing circumstances.

Innovation in Service Delivery
Innovation has been a hallmark of Meals on Wheels™ Ingham, particularly demonstrated with the opening of their new facility on 18 June 2024. The previous premises were limited in space and equipment, restricting the service’s growth. The new building has streamlined internal processes, enhanced meal preparation, and improved delivery efficiency, ensuring reliable and high-quality care for clients. This achievement was made possible through outstanding community support.
The new facility and equipment proved invaluable during the February 2025 floods. Power outages could have severely disrupted services, but thanks to the generator and contingency planning, Meals on Wheels™ Ingham delivered 191 servings of soup to the cyclone shelter at full capacity. Many volunteers, despite being personally affected by the floods, continued to assist clients, reflecting the extraordinary dedication and community spirit of the organisation.
Promoting Growth and Sustainability
Ingham has actively pursued long-term growth and sustainability. The committee engages with local businesses, builds partnerships with community organisations, and promotes the service to attract new volunteers. Fundraising and advocacy efforts not only secure essential funding but also raise community awareness of the vital role Meals on Wheels™ plays in supporting independence and wellbeing.
Through these initiatives, Ingham has positioned itself as a trusted and enduring service provider, committed to serving the Hinchinbrook community now and into the future.
The Rhoda Cameron Award recognises this remarkable organisation’s resilience, innovation, and dedication, highlighting the essential role Meals on Wheels™ Ingham plays in nurturing both the health and spirit of its community.
