What Meals on Wheels Queensland does on the ground.

On 1 November 2025, major headlines across the country announced sweeping reforms to aged care under the new Aged Care Act. While the media focused on legislation and policy, the real story was happening at the coalface where services and older Australians live the changes every day.

For Meals on Wheels Queensland, this is where our work matters most. Our team travelled thousands of kilometres across the state, from city centres to remote towns meeting services face-to-face, translating complex reforms into practical guidance, answering questions, and helping every service feel prepared and confident.

In the months leading up to the reforms, we held workshops, webinars, and created tailored resources to support services through the changes. From North Queensland to the Gold Coast, from Wide Bay to the outback west, our visits helped service coordinators understand new reporting requirements, problem-solve challenges, and focus on delivering quality care. Where travel wasn’t possible, we provided support through online meetings and phone calls, ensuring no service was left behind.

This is what MOWQ do, we empower services to navigate change, solve problems, and maintain quality care, so older Queenslanders continue to receive meals and vital social connection every day. The work may not always make headlines, but it is critical for the people on the ground.

The journey doesn’t end with legislation. As reporting requirements evolve and Support at Home takes shape, MOWQ remains committed to guiding, advocating, and supporting services ensuring the focus stays where it belongs: on the people who rely on us.
