On February 12, 2025, Meals on Wheels Queensland had the privilege of attending the Honouring Life High Tea, proudly sponsored by Cornerstone Funerals, Sureplan Friendly Society and Reid’s Place. This event was more than an opportunity to enjoy an indulgent spread; it was a gathering dedicated to fostering learning, connection, and compassionate conversations around end-of-life care. Meals on Wheels Queensland is committed to supporting people at all stages of life, and this event reinforced the importance of open dialogue in planning for the future.
A Space for Learning and Connection
The High Tea provided a meaningful opportunity to network with organisations such as Motor Neurone Disease Queensland and HomeInstead, Wellways, among others. While each organisation plays a different role in the community, we all share a common goal; to educate, support, and create spaces for individuals and families to make informed choices about their future. It was inspiring to see so many passionate professionals coming together to share their expertise and experiences.
The Importance of Open Conversations
One of the most valuable aspects of this event was the opportunity to engage in conversations that are often avoided. Talking about end-of-life planning is not about being morbid; it’s about ensuring dignity, reducing stress for loved ones, and making informed choices. At Meals on Wheels Queensland, we see firsthand how vital support networks are for older Australians, and being part of this event reinforced the importance of community-led discussions in making these transitions smoother and more supported.
As we continue to engage with like-minded organisations, Meals on Wheels Queensland remains dedicated to promoting informed decision-making and creating inclusive spaces for education and support. The Honouring Life High Tea was a reminder that, while the topic may be sensitive, approaching it with care and community can make all the difference.
If you or someone you know could benefit from these conversations, we encourage you to explore the many resources available. Together, we can ensure that individuals involved in aging and end-of-life planning are approached with the respect, dignity, and support they deserve.
